Report highlights drastic falls in UK regulator resources and inspection levels: A report ‘Unchecked UK the enforcement gap’ published by twenty UK non-governmental organisations has highlighted falls in resources and activity by regulators across a broad range of sectors. The report shows from 2009/10 to 2016/17, real terms funding for the environmental and social protection work of ten key national regulators fell on average by 50% with the total number of full-time staff working at these regulators falling by 30% in this period. The report also shows that from 2009/10 to 2016/17, spending by Local Authorities and fire authorities in England on key services which protect the health and wellbeing of citizens and the environment fell on average by 35%. Advertising rulings on health claims and price reduction claims: The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld complaints about:
- Cambridge Chocolate Technologies in respect of use of unauthorised health claims. View >
- Wowcher where an advertised product with claimed reduction had been substituted by a cheaper product. View >
Call for action to improve healthiness of eating outside the home: Food Standards Scotland has published a report calling for calorie labelling of menus, availability of healthier options for children and mandating of food standards for publicly operated catering. View >
