Webinar recording - Subsidy Control: How to make successful CMA referrals

19 April 2024

The Subsidy Control Act 2022 mandates that large subsidies and those to sensitive sectors must be referred to the Competition and Markets Authority for review. Recent critical reports show that some public authorities are finding this process difficult. To assist public sector bodies, DWF Subsidy Control experts Jonathan Branton and Alexander Rose discussed their experience supporting public authorities with the CMA referral process and sharing their practical tips on how to navigate the process successfully to achieve a positive outcome.

The session was be led by Jonathan Branton and Alexander Rose, who both appeared as experts at the House of Commons Select Committee for the Subsidy Control Bill. They have extensive experience advising on a wide range of subsidies and different government funds including advising upon CMA referrals relating to large infrastructure projects and the arts sector and leisure facilities, as a result they are often the first choice advisers for public authorities planning large projects.
