Students at Manchester Law School have the opportunity to be mentored by legal practitioners across the North of England, thanks to a new partnership with global legal business DWF.
DWF’s mentoring scheme with Manchester Metropolitan provides a unique opportunity for undergraduate law students at all levels to gain experience in the world of commercial law, while receiving coaching around employability skills.
Over a period of six months, 32 students will be able to meet with DWF mentors to seek career advice, receive guidance on applications and gain a better understanding of the legal profession.
Andrew Francis, Head of Manchester Law School, said: “This fantastic scheme will provide our students with the guidance to further develop their confidence to succeed in their legal careers after university. We are delighted to be working with DWF to offer the opportunity to all our undergraduates.
“In a competitive legal sector, the advice and training that current practitioners can offer our students will be vital in helping them hone their employability skills and stand out from the crowd when starting their legal careers.”
Sarah Tucker, Emerging Talent Specialist at DWF, said: “We are thrilled to be launching a mentoring scheme with MMU and we are confident that this will be of great benefit to the university's undergraduate law students. At DWF we are passionate about increasing access to the legal profession and we are hopeful that the scheme will help students to increase their confidence and employability.
The initiative was launched at Manchester Law School on Monday, 14 October with Andrew Francis and Sarah Tucker addressing second year undergraduate students.
