Experience

Mouna represents clients in the private and public sector following various types of cybersecurity incidents, privacy breaches and professional negligence claims, acting as a breach coach and defence counsel. She provides strategic guidance and practical advice to Canadian and foreign clients on their obligations under Canada’s Federal and Provincial privacy laws and has acted as counsel to organizations and professionals involved in regulatory investigations and complaints Mouna is also often retained urgently to commence litigation to trace and recover lost funds following social engineering attacks and wire fraud.  

Mouna is designated as a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) through the IAPP and holds a Certificate in Privacy Law and Cybersecurity from Osgoode. She has significant experience handling high profile incidents involving ransomware attacks, extortion, email compromises, rogue employees, data security, data loss and wire fraud, including on the claims side in 2019 during a secondment at a major global insurer. 

Mouna has a strong litigation background that assists her when representing lawyers, IT service providers, data controllers and other professionals in third party litigation stemming from wire fraud, data breaches and data loss. 

Mouna is the current President of Canadian Defence Lawyers Association and has served as a dedicated member for her entire career. She has previously served on the Ontario Bar Association’s Privacy and Access to Information Committee. Mouna is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events on issues of privacy and cybersecurity, including as Co-Chair of NetDiligence in Toronto in March, 2025. 

Mouna has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada in Privacy and Data Security and in Lexpert, both in its Directory and previously as a “Leading Lawyer to Watch” in Commercial Insurance. She was also recognized by Women We Admire as a one of the Top Women Leaders for 2023-2025. 

She is a contributing author of the text Cyber Liability and Cyber Insurance in Canada. 

When not working, Mouna enjoys spending time with her family, staying active and cheering on her beloved Detroit Lions.
