Food & Retail Regulatory round-up w/e 29 April: Argos told item not free if price inflated; Ambitious plastic reduction plan launched

Argos told item not free if price inflated: The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint re a camera plus free accessories package offered by Argos because the camera on its own was offered at a £20 lower price on the Argos clearance web site. View >


Ambitious plastic reduction plan launched: The DEFRA Waste and Resources Action Programme has published details of a major commitment by sixty food and retail sector businesses and organisations with the support of NGO’s and Government departments to deliver a circular economy to cut plastic waste by 2025 – ‘Together we Can’. The Plan includes commitments that 100% of plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable, with 70% recycled or composted, the elimination of unnecessary single trip packaging and 30% recycled content.  View >


Scottish Government claim widespread support for anti-obesity measures: The Scottish Government has published the responses received to its recent consultation.  Food sector bodies have called for a UK wide approach to food law following Brexit and the Food and Drink Federation has called for Government to develop a better understanding of the underlying causes of obesity.

UK and Welsh Assembly Government reach agreement on repatriation of powers: The UK and Welsh Governments have agreed an amendment to Clause 11 of the EU Withdrawal Bill.  The Scottish Government remains opposed to the clause. View >
