Ambitious plastic reduction plan launched: The DEFRA Waste and Resources Action Programme has published details of a major commitment by sixty food and retail sector businesses and organisations with the support of NGO’s and Government departments to deliver a circular economy to cut plastic waste by 2025 – ‘Together we Can’. The Plan includes commitments that 100% of plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable, with 70% recycled or composted, the elimination of unnecessary single trip packaging and 30% recycled content. Scottish Government claim widespread support for anti-obesity measures: The Scottish Government has published the responses received to its recent consultation. Food sector bodies have called for a UK wide approach to food law following Brexit and the Food and Drink Federation has called for Government to develop a better understanding of the underlying causes of obesity.
