ASA rules against temporary price promotions of food: In a judgment against Sainsbury’s that has massive implications for food retail pricing practices the Advertising Standards Authorityhas ruled that a claimed £4 to £3 price reduction claim could not be made for Haagen-Dazs ice-cream where over a period of time the price alternated between £4 and £3 over three week cycles on the basis that £4 was not the usual price. View >


The ASA has also upheld complaints against Argos and Pure Clean Environmental over failure to substantiate price reduction claims. View > 


Scottish Government consult on draft school food regulations: The Scottish Government is consulting on proposals to increase access to fresh fruit and vegetables with a minimum of two portions of veg and a portion of fruit to be offered as part of a school lunch, introduce lower sugar limits, for example for foods such as breakfast cereal and yoghurts, reduce how often sweetened and baked goods are available in primary schools. ban fruit juice and smoothies in primary and secondary schools and introduce a new regulation for red meat which specifies, for the first time, how much of a child’s weekly intake should be high-quality produce and limits the amount of processed meat. - Closes 29th August. View >


Consultation on additional conservation zones:  The Department for Food and Rural Affairs has launched a consultation on proposals to create a further 41 marine protected areas - Closes 21st July. View >
