Advertising ruling on high fat, sugar foods: The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that Mondelez were wrong to run a promotion with the National Trust for ‘Easter fun’ as more than 25% of the potential audience were judged to be under 16 years of age. View > 
The ASA has rejected a complaint about Vlogs for Ferrero on the basis that evidence was produced that less than 25% of the audience would be under 16. View >  
Sustain has commented on the promotion of high fat, salt and sugar foods to under 16’s. View >


Scottish Government publish diet and healthy weight delivery plan: The Scottish Government has set out its intention to restrict the advertising of high fat, salt and sugar foods near schools, and restrict their positioning in shops and to ban the sale of energy drinks to under 16’s meeting a hostile reaction from business. View > 


FSA consult on changes to Food Law Code: The Food Standards Agency is consulting on changes to its food law code of practice to take in the greater flexibility envisaged by its ‘Regulating our futures’ programme – Closes 27th September. View >

Brexit Developments


UK Cabinet agrees BREXIT negotiating positions: Following Friday’s meeting at Chequers the Cabinet has agreed that the UK should seek a future relationship with the EU based on a free trade area for goods with a common rule book to maintain frictionless trade at the borders and a facilitated customs arrangement to enable the UK to negotiate trade deals with other countries.  There is recognition that there will be less access between UK and EU markets for services. View > 


A white paper to be published this week is to fill in the detail. The Scottish and Welsh Governments have already set out their positions on the White paper following a meeting of the joint ministerial committee. View > 


DEFRA Consult on fisheries white paper: The Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs has published a consultation paper on ‘Sustainable Fisheries for future generations’ based on the UK leaving the EU Common Fisheries policy – Closes 12th September.  View > 


British Retail Consortium warn of food shortage risk of no deal Brexit: The retail trade body has written to the Prime Minister and EU Chief Negotiator setting out what it sees as the risks for food security of a no deal Brexit. View >
