Build the future: Train, retain and achieve

08 February 2021

At DWF we provide opportunities for real career progression and growth, by choosing apprenticeships that are mapped to specific roles and divisions that are growing within our business. In this blog Aisha Saeed talks more about the apprenticeship programmes that are available.

National Apprenticeship Week is taking place from 8 to 14 February this year, and we're pleased to be supporting this in the UK once again.

The theme for this year is 'Build the Future': Train, Retain and Achieve – the week aims to encourage everyone to celebrate the diversity of opportunity and value that apprenticeships bring, and how they can help individuals and employers build their future. This week will also showcase the resilience of apprentices and employers during the pandemic.

Apprenticeships are an effective pathway for us to develop our own talent, and good quality apprenticeships offer an alternative, high-quality route into the workplace, supporting employability for school and college leavers, as well as providing existing employees the opportunities for growth within the workplace.

Employing apprentice's at DWF, enables us to promote home grown talent and build a professional development structure for our workforce, for both entry level recruits and upskilling our existing employees. We are able to provide opportunities for real career progression and growth, by choosing apprenticeships that are mapped to specific roles and divisions that are growing within the business.

The launch of apprenticeships across our Commercial (Mindcrest), Insurance and Central Services division has been a great success over the years for both DWF and our apprentices. We have been able to make use of quality apprenticeship schemes as an opportunity to train our emerging talent, not just for their chosen pathway, but specifically for our organisation too.

By offering them the relevant learning resources and training, they are able to understand how our legal business operates, therefore delivering their responsibilities at a high level. By the time they have developed the relevant industry specific skills and knowledge, they become specialists within their chosen field, as well as capturing the values and culture of the business throughout their journey. Not only have they learned from experienced employees and become a valuable asset to the team, they also become an important part of DWF and their passion to develop and learn industry specific skills has enabled us to invest our time and resource in developing their training needs in order for them to be successful and engage in a long term career at DWF.

Developing our existing workforce is also extremely beneficial to both our people and our business. The flexibility of the various apprenticeships available allow for us to progress our passionate and forward thinking employees on learning programmes that will enhance and build new skills and develop them in ways to assist and meet the current and future skills set needed within an ever changing environment. We are always looking at ways to upskill our current employee workforce, highlighting areas for knowledge growth where it will benefit the business in the future. The world is changing, and businesses need to remain up to date with all on-going changes.

The various apprenticeship schemes offered at DWF have been a success over the years, and as such, this is now embedded within our workforce planning and has the support and backing of various stakeholders in the business, as it has proven to add real value to our organisation.
