DWF launches Singapore corporate insurance practice with partner appointment

21 August 2018
Jonathan Goacher | DWF

DWF has appointed corporate and regulatory partner Jonathan Goacher to its Singapore office as the business looks to strengthen its transactional practice in the Asia Pacific region. He joins from Kennedys, where he led the firm's regional corporate insurance practice, prior to which he was a consultant to DLA Piper's Bangkok office for over a decade.

With extensive experience of working in the Southeast Asian region, Jonathan handles a broad range of corporate & regulatory matters and brings a particular expertise in the insurance sector. He advises high profile insurers, intermediaries, loss adjusters and other industry participants on matters such as business establishment, mergers and acquisitions, capital and solvency requirements, portfolio transfers, reinsurance and currency controls.

Jonathan also advises on regulatory issues such as licensing, notification and consent requirements, foreign business restrictions and anti-money laundering regulations. As a New York-qualified lawyer, he is also able to advise on U.S. sanctions.

In line with DWF's sector-focused approach, Jonathan will play a key part in continuing to grow the business's insurance sector expertise in Singapore and capitalising on the growing demand from clients to establish operations in the region.

Oommen Mathew, Managing Partner of DWF Singapore, said: "Jonathan will be a very strong addition to our Singapore practice as we look to build our corporate and transactional offering to further capitalise on the opportunities in the market. His in-depth local expertise combined with his blend of insurance and commercial work will allow us to deliver an enhanced service to clients and a more comprehensive, one-stop-shop approach, while his approach to service and innovation will make him a real asset to our clients. This is a very exciting time of growth and development for DWF, and we are very pleased to welcome Jonathan to the team."

Jonathan Goacher added: "Southeast Asia presents a really exciting landscape for the insurance industry, with tremendous opportunities. Insurance is a unique industry and DWF, with its focus on the sector and its global reach, is well positioned to help insurance clients achieve their goals in this region. I’m looking forward to working with this innovative firm and the excellent team in Singapore."

Launched in June 2017, DWF Singapore has built a wide-ranging practice with an offering of commercial arbitration, construction and infrastructure arbitration as well as investor-State arbitration and State-to-State dispute resolution.
