Construction recovery continues as demand returns to the sector

05 November 2020
Kate Kirby, partner in the Construction & Infrastructure practice at global legal business, DWF, comments on the CIPS/IHS Markit construction PMI figures for October 2020, released today.
Kate said: "October's figures show a continued trend of growth in the construction sector, albeit at the slowest rate since June. There has been an increase in new work for construction businesses and this could be due to new projects, previously delayed by COVID, now kick-starting, alongside an upturn in house building.

"However, the figures show that supply chain issues are a problem for productivity and employee numbers have also dropped. It is hope that with construction work continuing as business as usual during the lockdown in England which starts today, this will provide some continuity for the sector and job security for those working in it.

"The demand for new homes, regeneration and commercial property is still there, and if the sector can continue to overcome the challenges of COVID and Brexit, the future of construction looks cautiously positive in a post-pandemic world."
