Matthew is a Partner in our Professional Indemnity team in Leeds and has specialised in defending professionals for over 20 years. Although based in the Leeds office he practises across the country.
His traditional practice areas include defending of solicitors, brokers, accounts and other financial professionals. He has been defending TMT professionals against breach of contract and professional negligence claims brought by their clients for over a decade. Whilst the sector is a fast evolving one, the common themes running through these claims remain largely unchanged; fee claims remain prevalent and insurers are often left grappling with issues arising from project delay, poor contractual documents and inadequate scoping. Matthew's experience and understanding of these issues is invaluable in securing the timely resolution of TMT disputes that can otherwise become time-consuming and expensive.
Matthew has advised insurers in relation to the wording of cyber policies, as well as speaking at conferences on cyber issues. He regularly advises insurers on coverage issues in the TMT sector (on both TMT-specific and general PI policies). He also supervises helpline and claims handling services provided to the firm's insurer clients in relation to their technology and media schemes.
Matthew is a keen advocate of ADR and has successfully mediated dozens of disputes. He is also an early adopter of the Adjudication Scheme for Professional Negligence Claims.
