Kara's elevation to the three-person leadership team comes after four years served on two Councils as an Ordinary Member and is a significant next step in her administrative and political legal career.

The VP position within the Queensland Law Society comprises the point of entry into a structured succession sequence. While the VP, deputy president (DP) and president are elected concurrently for two-year terms, they each serve only one year in their initially designated role. In the second year the VP assumes the duties of the DP, while the DP assumes the duties of the president, who becomes the immediate past president (IPP) for the second year of their term.
