    How we make a meaningful difference

    We take many actions to ensure that we are making a meaningful difference, like supporting the aims of the 2015 Paris Agreement and actively managing our carbon emissions aligned to a 1.5C pathway. We also work to incorporate climate change scenarios to understand the impact on our business model, as well as taking action to ensure efficient use of resources, following the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ waste hierarchy.

    Setting science-based targets

    We recognise that companies that set science-based targets build long-term business value and safeguard their future profitability. To hold off some of the worst climate impacts and avoid irreversible damage to our societies, economies and the natural world, we must hold temperature rises to no more than 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. We have signed the commitment to setting science-based targets and will track and report progress annually.

    SDG Ambition

    We are taking part in the UN’s SDG Ambition, a global accelerator initiative that aims to challenge and support UN Global Compact companies to set ambitious corporate targets into its core business management. This programme runs from October 2020 to July 2021 and a key outcome will be aligning our decarbonisation goals with science-based targets and embedding a set of material sustainability goals delivered by 2030 to accelerate our contribution to the SDGs. DWF Foundations recent sign up to the Funders Commitment to Climate Change

The Funders Commitment on Climate Change is hosted by the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF). This commitment outlines 6 principles for funders like DWF Foundation to sign up to, to demonstrate their commitment and how they are using their resources to bring about change.

As part of the foundations 5th Anniversary celebrations we've included an additional theme of support "Environment and Sustainability". Whilst the DWF foundation had funded environmental projects under other themes of education, employability, homelessness and health and well-being the trustees wanted to have a clear message about the commitment of DWF Foundation to supporting environmental activities.

To support the launch of this theme the trustees are supporting The Funders Commitment to Climate change. The scale of the climate threat, and the scale of the solutions needed, means that this is an issue for all parts of civil society, and for all charitable foundations. Climate change is a health issue, an equality issue, an educational issue, an economic issue, a cultural issue, a scientific issue, a security issue and a local community issue, as well as an environmental issue.

The Funders Commitment on Climate Change is hosted by the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF). This commitment outlines 6 principles for funders like DWF Foundation to sign up to, to demonstrate their commitment and how they are using their resources to bring about change.

There is a special responsibility on foundations, whose assets are held for the public good, to use their resources and independence to rise to the challenge. Through adding the additional pillar of "Environment and sustainability" the DWF Foundation recognises that the growing climate emergency is a serious risk and through the grant giving can play a part in addressing the causes of climate change.
