Important Updates

Advertising Rulings on ‘Home Cooked’ and ‘Guaranteed Christmas Delivery’: The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld complaints regarding the following due to lack of substantiation by the advertisers of the claims made:


  • Steinhoff. T/A Harveys – False claim as to ‘Guaranteed delivery of selected lines for Christmas. View >
  • Butternut Box - Claim that dog food was ‘Home Cooked’ when factory produced and not made in a domestic kitchen. View >

White paper on ‘Online harms’ published:  The Home Office and Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport have jointly launched a White Paper exploring ‘Online harms’. The white paper proposes a duty of care to do all that is reasonable to keep users safe online for those online companies which allow users to share or discover user-generated content, or that allow users to interact with each other online. It is proposed that the duty will be enforced by an independent regulator and expectations will be set out in new codes of practice including age verification for online access to products and purchase of goods.  Consultation on the white paper runs until 1st July. View > View > View > View >


Quality and effectiveness of audit under scrutiny: The independent Brydon review of audit for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has issued a call for evidence. Questions cover the purpose of audit and for whom it should be carried out, whether its scope and purpose should be widened and strengthened to meet changing expectations of audit, how the quality of the audit process and product could be improved, whether audit findings could be better communicated, the role of audit within wider business assurance and in relation to directors’ legal responsibilities and the role of audit in detecting fraud and auditor liability. – Responses by 7th June. View > View >
