Red lines evident as round 8 of UK/EU future partnership negotiations due to commence: EU Commission Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier has delivered a key note addressed to the Irish Institute for International and European Affairs in which he reiterated EU requirements to guarantee fair and open competition, access to fisheries and a dispute resolution mechanism. Mr Barnier highlighted a speech by the UK Environment Agency Chief Executive which suggested that UK water standards would be less rigorous than EU requirements following Brexit to support the EU negotiating position. The board intend to meet quarterly and will engage extensively with industry, communities, farmers and consumer groups across the UK, to ensure a range of voices are heard as the UK develops its independent trade policy.
