Release of the new Manslaughter Definitive Guidelines
The Sentencing Council has released the Manslaughter Definitive Guidelines (including Gross Negligence Manslaughter), effective from 1 November 2018. The New Guidelines will affect any case sentenced on or after 1 November, irrespective of the date of the offence.
Revisions to PACE Codes of Practice
The PACE codes of practice contain important procedural safeguards for when the police exercise their powers. Code C, E, F and H have been revised and the changes came into effect from 31st July 2018.

HSE's annual figures for work-related fatal injuries for 2017/18 shows rise in fatalities
The HSE has released its annual figures for work-related fatal injuries in 2017/18. The provisional annual data for work-related fatal injuries reveals that 144 workers were fatally injured between April 2017 and March 2018, a rate of 0.45 per 100,000 workers. This represents an increase of nine fatalities from 2016/17.
Fairground Inflatables: A need for tighter regulation?
Following two recent deaths involving fairground inflatables, the regulations and inspection regime surrounding their use and installation has been forced into the spotlight with many calling for an urgent review and investigation of the regulations currently in place.
