DWF celebrate a trio of wins at the Women in Insurance Awards

17 October 2022

We are delighted with a hat trick of award wins at the Women in Insurance Awards 2022, including for our contribution to Diversity and Inclusion in the sector.

DWF won the Contribution to Inclusion award in recognition of the work its global D&I Leadership Group are doing to pioneer a broad range of programmes and embed diversity and inclusion best practice across all areas of the organisation.

DWF have set ambitious targets related to D&I and introduced initiatives including using blind CVs in the recruitment process to increase recruitment of underrepresented groups, introducing inclusive hiring training and implementing measures to champion gender equality at all levels.

Partner and Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Seema Bains, commented, "At DWF we encourage all colleagues to consider how their decisions and actions contribute to creating an inclusive work environment. This award acknowledges the continuous work undertaken by D&I advocates throughout our organisation, at all levels, to support our D&I ambitions and embed inclusivity into everything we do. We are proud that our colleagues are constantly looking for ways to remove barriers and create an environment where everyone can thrive".

The second award for the firm saw Jewels Chamberlain, Partner, achieve Role Model of the Year recognising her extensive fundraising work as Trustee of the DWF Charitable Foundation, championing diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout her life, her role on DWF's D&I Committee, commencing the NSPCC Merseyside Ladies Corporate Board in Liverpool, her work in Preston and Liverpool office with CSR and on the UCLAN School of Justice Employer Board, just for a few examples.

Commenting on the win Jewels said, "Receiving this award is incredibly personal. It is aside from the day job and is recognition for all I have been committed to since my teenage years. This is my passion and drive and I am incredibly proud of myself and to be recognised for this is wonderful."

Also celebrating a win was Kishan Mangat, awarded Insurance Lawyer of the Year in recognition for her rigorous work in defending catastrophic injury claims on behalf of insurers as well as all of the volunteer work she does to actively promote ethnic diversity in the insurance sector. Kishan is a founding member and Co-Chair of the Insurance Cultural Awareness Network (iCAN), which is the first cross industry network advocating for greater multicultural inclusion in insurance. Kishan also sits on the committee of the Inclusive Women in Insurance Network (iWIN) which is part of the Worshipful Company of Insurers (WCI) and is dedicated to furthering the careers of women in insurance.

Kishan commented, "I am extremely honoured and humbled to have won Insurance Lawyer of the Year at the Women in Insurance Awards 2022.  This year's awards showcased talented and hardworking women from across the market and all that they do to make the Insurance market such a great place to work.  Congratulations to all of the women who were nominated, shortlisted and those who won!".

The firm also made the shortlist in two further award categories, with Jill Sinclair for Lawyer of the Year and Linda Avan for Unsung Hero.
