DWF advises Nesta on investment in Gaia Learning

07 October 2024
DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has advised Nesta Impact Investments, the VC investor arm of Nesta, UK-based innovation foundation, on their latest investment in Manchester-based Gaia Learning, a global leader in neuro-divergent education.

Founded in 1998, Nesta is an early stage investor dedicated to using innovation for social good. Their investments focus on businesses that support their mission to foster a fairer, healthier, more sustainable future. In line with this, Nesta has recognised Gaia Learning as a solution to narrow the education disadvantage gap, which is particularly acute for children with special educational needs.

Gaia Learning offers live classes, content, courses, and a community for children with ADHD, autism, and other learning challenges. Their innovative approach provides much-needed support for children who often struggle in traditional school environments.

This transaction marks DWF's first instruction for Nesta. The DWF corporate team, led by partner James Bryce, included partner Dhruv Chhatralia, director Sarah Briscall, and associate Eilidh Durkin; along with partner Ann Frances Cooney and solicitor Iona Hamilton.

Commenting on the deal, James Bryce said: "It was a pleasure to have supported Nesta on this significant investment. Nesta's commitment to social impact and innovation aligns closely with our commitment to responsible business, and Gaia Learning’s mission to support neuro-divergent children in a high-growth sector is incredibly exciting. We believe this partnership will create a meaningful impact."

Lisa Barclay, Executive Director of Investments at Nesta, said: "We are thrilled to invest in Gaia Learning, a company whose mission to support neuro-divergent children better engage in education is aligned with Nesta’s goal to narrow the education attainment gap.  We would like to extend our thanks to the DWF team for their guidance and expertise throughout the investment process, which was instrumental in ensuring a smooth and successful transaction."
