DWF opens in Hamburg with 16-person team hire

01 December 2025

DWF, the integrated provider of legal and business services, is to open a new office in Germany through the arrival of a 16-strong team in Hamburg.

The team consists of three partners, a further eight fee earners and five business services colleagues.

The move brings together two specialist transport and marine teams from the German law firms Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein (ASD) and SKW Schwarz (SKW). The combined team will be led by Dr. Marco Remiorz who joins from ASD, with partners Dr. Philipp Hartmann and Dr. Niels Witt joining from SKW.

This is the latest in a series of moves by DWF which add further scale to its global offering. Earlier this year, DWF announced significant expansion in Australia through the recruitment of a team of 62 insurance specialists from Hall & Wilcox. It also opened a fourth office in Canada through the arrival of an insurance team in Montreal.

Meanwhile in the UK it has added a team of 13 marine insurance specialists, with a further five partners joining its major injury & casualty practice.

Commenting on the latest team hire, Matthew Doughty, CEO of DWF Group said: “Germany is an important territory for DWF. It is the largest economy in Europe and the largest legal and insurance market in the EU. It is a strategic priority for us to strengthen our capabilities to support our clients in Germany and capitalise on the cross-border opportunities across Europe through our offices in Poland, Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Ireland.

“Our new team has a particular focus on the transport and marine sectors, complementing our recent hires in the UK. We now have a very strong global marine offering, with plans to build further capability in new and existing locations over the coming 12 months.”

Oliver Bolthausen, Germany Country Managing Partner, added: “I am delighted to welcome Marco, Philipp, Niels and their teams to DWF. There is a close cultural alignment between our teams which will help to ensure our new colleagues play a key part in our success going forward. This is the first in a series of steps that will see us grow both our Commercial Services and Insurance Services offerings.”

Dr. Marco Remiorz added: “DWF’s integrated approach to the delivery of Commercial Services and Insurance Services fits seamlessly with our work in the transport, aviation, logistics and marine insurance markets. These areas are a natural blend of commercial activity and risk management, making Hamburg an ideal base to strengthen this combined offering with an exceptionally strong team."

The team is expected to join DWF on 1 January 2026.

Hamburg will become DWF’s third office in Germany, in addition to Munich and Düsseldorf through which the Group provides clients with dispute resolution, real estate, employment, corporate and commercial services.
