Ben McLeod

Ben specialises in the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts and technology agreements across a range of sectors. He has a particular focus on IT outsourcing arrangements and helping clients transition from legacy systems to alternative solutions.

Experience

Ben advises a variety of clients on a range of contractual arrangements including large outsourcings and the provision of business critical services (IT and other services) as well as software and hardware agreements. He also acts for both customers and suppliers in negotiating complex Cloud computing agreements.

His recent experience includes:

  • advising on, drafting and negotiating the terms of an agreement for the outsourcing of all aspects of a FTSE 100 company's telecommunications provision;
  • guiding a major national retailer on all legal aspects of the procurement of a HR/Payroll SaaS solution to replace its existing on premise system; and
  • acting for a multinational corporation on the first generation outsourcing of its global support and application maintenance services.

Articles

Ben has written and contributed to articles on issues affecting the IT industry and has also spoken at seminars to share his expertise in this area.  He has recently attended the “Growth Berlin” conference and presented on why German technology start-up/scale-up companies should consider the UK, and more particularly Birmingham, as the place to grow their business.  

Ben is passionate about innovation in the legal sector and has mentored two groups of business/law students as part of the LawWithoutWalls programme, most recently at Harvard Law School.
