As legal technology and AI continue to rapidly develop, the in-house legal community is abuzz with how to react. At CraftyFest, The Legal Operations Team at DWF helped drive the discussion, and created a little buzz ourselves.
Now in its second year, CraftyFest, a summer festival in London designed for in-house legal by CraftyCounsel, welcomed more than 500 legal professionals on June 14. With exhibits from legal vendors and talks from experts in the field, this event created an open dialogue on collaboration, technology and key insights on creating modern legal departments.
Rachita Maker, our Global Head of Legal Operations, Technology and Consulting, chaired a panel on How to make colleagues love interacting with Legal. The panel discussed intake and self-service without the big ticket price - with real examples of how Legal empowers the business team to get work done (and capture data along the way). When the game continues to change, how does a legal department collaborate with other functions, implement self-service and mapping out technology needs? The team included:
- Sharon Evans, GC, TotallyMoney
- Rachita Maker, Global Head of Legal Ops, Technology & Consulting, DWF
- Toby McCrindle, CLO, SeedLegals
- Francesca Porter, GC, Onfido
“I enjoyed the chance to discuss the ways we can make the legal department of the future more accessible to the wider business,” said Rachita. “From training lawyers to better support other functions and using legal design to communicate better, we can make interacting with Legal a much smoother experience.”
Out on the exhibit floor, the DWF booth featured a buzz wire which asked participants to manoeuvre a large metal wand along a curving wire without touching it - a difficult task for the impatient! The attendee with the fastest time earned a donation from DWF to the charity of their choice and all participants learned that, just like in implementing legal tech, having a plan and being patient helps you get all the way through successfully.
DWF is proud to have been a sponsor of CraftyFest and we look forward to attending more events across our global locations later this summer.
