Rebecca will lead DWF's Pro Bono and Community Program in Australia, building partnerships with community and commercial organisations and providing pro bono legal assistance to organisations and individuals.
Rebecca has significant experience connecting lawyers to a diverse range of pro bono opportunities, both globally and within Australia. She has advised charities and not-for-profit organisations and has participated in a wide range of outreach programs supporting individuals experiencing disadvantage. She has held multiple leadership roles in the community legal sector, including as a program director, overseeing the strategic direction of legal programs focused on improving access to legal help for individuals and not-for-profit organisations.
Pro bono work has long been a major focus of DWF's extensive Charitable and Community Program. DWF is a signatory to the Australian National Pro Bono Target and all DWF lawyers have access to TrustLaw, the global pro bono legal program that connects social and environmental change enterprises with law firms to provide free legal assistance.
Commenting on Rebecca's appointment, Country Managing partner Hamish Broadbent said: "Rebecca's appointment is an exciting and significant one for DWF globally and for our Pro Bono and Community Program locally. Her role provides a platform to further develop our established pro bono work, connecting more lawyers to pro bono opportunities and further strengthening DWF's commitment to wider social good. A dedicated pro bono practice ensures that our pro bono work remains meaningful and targeted. We are thrilled to have Rebecca joining DWF to drive our objectives forward."
Rebecca McMahon said: "I am honoured to be entrusted to expand on DWF's already deep commitment to social responsibility and achieving impact through pro bono work. I look forward to working closely with our community partners to extend the opportunities for our people to give back and deliver meaningful outcomes for those in need."
