Paul has over 30 years experience defending a broad range of claims, particularly in the mining, construction, manufacturing, transport and leisure/tourism industries. He has particular expertise in complex multi-party claims involving contractual and insurance issues and the interplay between workers' compensation and general liability frameworks.
Notable matters include:
- defence of Department of Defence F111 deseal/reseal bank of claims, involving novel evidentiary and causation issues for chemical contamination diagnoses
- successful defence to trial of $1.3M specie insurance indemnity claim for fraud and non-disclosure
- successful High Court inevitable accident defence of motor vehicle CTP claim
- settlement of $60M product liability claim for defective fibreglass resin, involving multiple parties, policy periods and insurers on risk and securing major contribution from extra-territorial and uninsured co-defendant.
- management of a broad portfolio of diverse claims to efficient and advantageous resolution
- successful recovery at trial of $1M damages and costs for deficient construction of luxury yacht, and defended on appeal
