Navigating ICO Audits

04 July 2024

Read the insights from our latest data protection & cyber security briefing.

On May 30, we welcomed a number of in-house data protection, risk and legal experts to our Data Protection & Cyber Security Breakfast Briefing, on ICO audits. This interactive session examined how to accommodate, prepare for and successfully navigate the challenges that regulatory audits present.

An ICO audit can be a daunting process for many who engage in it, but they play a crucial role in ensuring that the organisation is compliant and properly protecting the personal data of its users, customers, employees and more.

The informative event drew on DWF’s unique experience in navigating the ICO Audit process. In addition, the incredible insights provided by our guests added further context and background to each situation. During the session, we challenged attendees to consider the objective of an audit and provided a clear definition of its purpose. Furthermore, we discussed the powers that the ICO has in both consensual and compulsory audit situations. These topics are just a small sample of what we covered during the session.

The discussions within the room were driven by real-life experiences from practitioners who must consider the prospects of ICO audits, alongside other regulatory checks, on a day-to-day basis.

This session was a precursor to our June Briefing, on the importance of international standards for operational best practice.
