Emerging Talent Specialist, Sarah Tucker, on why DWF is different to other law firms.

Name: Sarah Tucker
Job title: Emerging Talent Specialist, People Investment
Location: UK, Manchester;

1. How has your employment journey led you to DWF?

I previously worked as a Recruitment Officer for Baker McKenzie in London, a leading international law firm. I worked across both the graduate and experienced hire recruitment teams. Prior to this, I worked at a range of law firms in London, specialising in graduate recruitment. I went to university in Manchester and thought it was time to return to my roots!

2. What is the best thing about working here?

DWF is very fast-paced, I am never bored in my role and time flies! We are a rapidly expanding legal business so things often change which keeps me on my toes.

3. What has been your proudest moment at DWF so far?

I recently managed an assessment centre in Glasgow for our Scottish vacation schemes. It was the first time I had visited the office and I was pleased to see how engaged the partners were, they were extremely passionate about the trainee recruitment process. I received some outstanding feedback on the quality of the candidates and how smoothly the day ran.

4. What is different about working at DWF?

The culture. DWF is genuinely different to any law firm I have ever worked at. It is innovative and embraces change, which is refreshing. People want to hear your ideas and you do not have to go through many different levels of sign off if you want to change something (as long as there is a business need of course!) My role requires creativity so this works extremely well for me.

5. How has DWF offered to support your development?

It has been made clear to me that I can get exposure to other areas if I would like to, which is excellent as this is partly why I joined DWF. The Academy has some fantastic courses, for example I recently completed GDPR training in light of the new regulations coming in.

6. How do you get involved with activities or projects that are outside of your role?

I am running Manchester half marathon this year for the DWF Foundation, our charity. Not only is it a fantastic opportunity for me to help raise money for the Foundation, it will also be great for me to spend some time with colleagues who I may not have come across before.

7. In three words, how would you describe DWF?

Innovative, friendly, fast-paced.
