Rapid tests confidence in organisations’ risk and resilience but for this video I was really interested in understanding how it was key to figure out the Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) question to drive the innovation process. While we’re talking about Rapid, the insights on how it was developed would be completely transferable to use in a range of situations when you’re trying to innovate and test out new ideas.
Process was key. It starts with no assumptions.
Even if an idea is well formed the first thing is to consider who is it for; who is it serving; how would they benefit? Then work forward from that.
The JTBD question is being used at the centre of each process - what job is this fulfilling for the user? Next, collaboration was fundamental at each stage of the process, especially with possible end users. If you’re unsure about anything don’t assume and use collaborators to test and evaluate these features. For this it’s better to ask open questions; not necessarily presenting your solutions but finding out what the client/user might actually want.
Then get to a first working version very quickly. This allows you to go back to your collaborators so they can give feedback. And what’s the JTBD question that Rapid answers? How confident is the organisation about risk and resilience?
