Ruth has over 35 years' experience handling personal injury claims at home and abroad. She has helped shape our road traffic law with her Court of Appeal wins Farley v Buckley and Evitt v Burton. Ruth was the lead editor of Bingham and Berrymans' Motor claims cases.
Ruth has a track record of handling significant and high profile employers and public liability claims covering a range of topics. She has taken cases to the Court of Appeal and has also successfully defended claims in the Isle of Man.
Ruth was a finalist in the women in insurance lawyer of the year category in 2020.
Ruth has secured numerous positive outcomes on behalf of bus and coach companies and their insurers, arising from accidents in the UK, France and Belgium. Claims have involved multiple passengers, significant injuries (amputation, TBI, fatalities) and jurisdiction arguments. As a Partner and head of the transport group at her previous defendant insurance firm, Ruth led two successful volume motor claims teams at Manchester and Liverpool and a bus and coach team based in Birmingham.
Ruth has mentored a number of paralegals, trainee solicitors and assistant solicitors who are now successful Partners in insurance practises across the country. Ruth was chairperson of the Manchester Young Solicitors Group, Chair of the Manchester Law Society Civil Litigation committee for 15 years and is now an active member of the Confederation of Passenger Transport, providing their claims and insurance group with a legal update at their bi-annual meetings. She is a Director of the Road Operators Safety Council.
Ruth is a non-executive Group Chair of a successful motor insurer based in Gibraltar.
