Issue
Our client, a large construction company, was engaged in litigation against a city transit commission for damages for breach of contract, negligence and negligent misrepresentation, the commission’s failure to perform its obligations under the contract, and punitive damages. Mindcrest was asked by the client to provide review of approximahotely half a million documents produced by the opposing party in this large construction litigation matter.
Solution
To solve these issues, we implemented a strategy involving both our technological and resource based assets. Here are the steps we took to improve our clients workflow and provide value.
Experienced review team
Partnering with our recruiting team, we promptly assembled a reliable onshore review team based out of our Chicago office after meeting with the client to fully understand the scope of the work.
Strategic partnership
Mindcrest partnered with the client and its law firm to create and implement a workflow specifically tailored to meet the client’s deadline of reviewing half a million documents produced by opposing counsel within a three-month timeframe.
Custom workflow
Using a custom workflow driven by Relativity Assisted Review, Mindcrest quickly brought potential hot documents to the forefront, allowing the client and the law firm to analyze the data most critical to the litigation.
Efficient & timely review
Mindcrest was able to complete the review of roughly 500,000 documents ahead of schedule, coding for hot documents and approximately 20 issue tags. Mindcrest provided managed review and quality control, ensuring that the project remained on deadline and on budget, while providing direct oversight of the review team.
Benefits & outcomes
The project was a success for the client and provided both short term and long term benefits. Here are some of the outcomes.
Tech enhanced solution
By designing a custom workflow utilizing technology assisted review, Mindcrest was able to analyze the most critical documents early in the review which gave the client and law firm more time to prepare for upcoming depositions and trial.
Significant cost savings
As a result of working with Mindcrest, the client and law firm were positioned to spend their time exclusively reviewing documents that were helpful to them in preparing for both upcoming depositions and trial, rather than losing time and money reviewing nearly 500,000 documents themselves.
