David will join from Clyde & Co where he is global co-head of reinsurance and a senior partner in the specialty and energy teams.
David brings significant experience advising insurers on trade credit and political risk, as well as many years of experience in reinsurance. He also advises the London and international markets on energy matters, including the onshore market and related mining and industrial work, as well as a range of liability coverage matters.
He regularly advises on high value, high profile matters in both contentious and non-contentious work.
Glyn Jones, CEO of Insurance Services at DWF said: "David has a longstanding track record in global reinsurance and has developed a reputation as one of the leading advisors on trade credit, political risk and energy. These disciplines are in great demand as economic conditions place stress on businesses in multiple sectors, while globalisation means many companies are expanding into new markets, some with less stable political environments than others. His skillset and superb relationships across the London market will be a strong addition to our existing practice and will complement the firm's own international expansion."
David Abbott added: "DWF has an excellent insurance brand and a number of important panel relationships. The team is in a strong position to further develop this profile and to build a practice focusing on London market complex coverage work which can challenge the established players in those markets. I was attracted to join a business which is growing and globalising rapidly and is prepared to take a different approach to the way legal and connected services are delivered to clients."
DWF has one of the largest specialist insurance practices in the UK and continues to make considerable investments in growing its London team in particular.
